Sweet and thoughtful

I received a Facebook message the other day from Lexi who is a client, but also someone I'd like to call a friend.

"Just wanted to tell you that I made you a little something for doing such a great job on Ezra's pics!  It's a little late, I have been meaning to do it for a while...time has flown by!

But anyways I would love to bring it by sometime when you will be home :)"

And this is her sweet gift she made me.  I will wear this with pride I tell you.  I love it so much.  I love it that Benson's name is on it and I feel like he is close by me even when he is not.Thank you Lexi for thinking of me and for being so thoughtful.  You are so crafty and creative.  And I will cherish this necklace forever. I mean it- for-evvvv-ur.

7 years of blessings

On Sunday, August 16, 2009 Ben and I celebrated 7 years of marriage :) One of our traditions we like to do is watch our wedding video. Its so awesome to look back at our wedding SEVEN years ago (hard to believe) and be reminded of what great blessings we've had in our lives together. Its also a great reminder of how a wife and husband should be towards one another. Our minister (good 'ol Russ Murphy) said the wife should be an encourager and the husband a protector and provider. I know Ben has been both a protector and provider for me and our son. He is a hard worker and a still makes time for us and always has and I know always will. I hope that I have been a good encourager to Ben. I know for year numero 8 I am making that my goal as a wife; to be an encourager and give affirmation every day in some way or another. Recently Ben was telling me that he is thankful for me being his wife, but I also want to say thank you Ben for being my husband. Not only is he the BEST husband, but he is also the BEST dad to our son. As we watched the wedding video Benson was in the living room with us and we never even thought that one day we would be sharing this with our baby boy. Life is so special and sweet and I just can't praise God enough. (giving God a big MUAH right now)bencristydating-blog This was one of our first dates. We were very new at dating, but were officially boyfriend and girlfriend at this point :) We had just been to a LeeAnn Womack concert that sadly got rained out. Our friend Jay Reed took this picture for us, and it is one of my very very very favorite pictures of ALL times of me and Benny.

Brooke and Seth.New Mexico/Texas Engagement Session

As I walked up to the fair grounds I instantly noticed Brooke and Seth. They were the only ones dressed up to go to the fair and I figured it had to be them. They were so stylish. Him with his orange tie and her with the fabulous black and white dress with a touch of turquoise for balance. As we waited in line for our tickets I wanted to get to know them a little bit better. They told me they met through Campus Crusade for Christ (Cru). I was excited to hear that because Cru is where Ben and I met. As I was telling them Ben was the emcee of our days Brooke quickly says, "So was Seth!" I'm thinking a big OMG at this point. I love when there are connections with my clients and this one was too fun for me. The fun continued from the moment we stepped through the gates to the moment we said our goodbyes in the parking lot as I handed them a Cristy Cross Photography t-shirt.To give you an idea of what kind of fun we had, check out the images below...

Food, fun, and fotos

Tonight I met up with some friends for dinner at Stellas in Lubbock and then on to shooting each other. It was the first time for me to meet Shari and Memoree and they were a delight to be around. I have hungered to be with some photog girlfriends and take pictures of each other and I was very excited when Lauren Z invited me to go with them.I had so much fun and wish we could do this every week! Thanks girls!

You asked for it

Thanks for leaving comments on my last post about what  you want to see more of on my blog.  A couple of you were curious with what gear I use and so I would like to share with you. I will introduce one piece of gear at a time, starting with Canon's 50mm F1.250mm12Why do I love this lens?  Simple.  It has a large maximum aperture of f/1.2 providing outstanding speed for shooting in low light conditions, and you don't even need to use a flash. The large aperture also provides fine control over depth of field. It's so awesome.  The glass in the lens is spectacularly crisp too.

Technical info:  ISO 200, 1/400 @ f4.0

Even though I love shooting at f1.2, I don't do it all the time because I like to change it up.  I originally had these settings when we were playing ring around the rosey and they were moving in a circle.  I have it at f4.0 so I can make sure they are in focus for the most part.  And the same answer goes for why I have it at 1/400 speed.  Gotta have fast speed when around moving kiddos.  So even though these settings weren't specifically picked for this picture, it still works.

Why did I chose this picture?

I love these little girls and how they play with one another.  As I was watching at how extremely sweet they were to one another I yelled back at mom asking if they were always like this.  She gave me a look and then laughed :)  The oldest daughter is a huge helping hand with the two little ones.  The middle child is well, a little independent.  She is doing her own thing even though you want her to look at the book and act like she is interested in what her sister is reading, she honestly just doesn't care.  And that just makes me laugh, because that is SO me. This image portrays the older sister as the mother figure, the middle sister as the independent one, and the littlest girl as the follower and listener.  This is also interesting to me even more now that we have a baby of our own.  I wonder what he will grow up to be like, and what a future sibling one day in the far off future will be like and how they will be with each other.

More to follow...maybe tomorrow.

Bloggers

I've been wondering the last few days how people know about my blog and how often they visit.  The only people I know that visit are those that leave a comment and when you do, I love going to your website, or blog and checking out your work and leaving comments too.  For the past six months or so my blogs are imported on to my Facebook page and I know some have checked out the blog because of that.  However I took it off of Facebook, because I wanted people to come to the blog and view my pictures there, not just on Facebook and leave a comment on my blog hopefully :)  But maybe that is how some of you know to look at the blog. So all this to say I'm curious as to how you hear about my blog/website and if you like what you see.

What would you like to see more of?

Also, I wanted to say that I wish I wrote more on my sessions, but I really don't do a very good job at it so I keep it short and simple.  Would you like to know more about the sessions or do you really care?

Alrighty then.  I want this blog to not only be about the work I do, but I want it to also be about my clients and bloggers.  So speak up and let me know what you think on the blog topics and posts too.

A picture to part you with of the homemade strawberry ice cream we made a few months back on a hot summer day in our fun Anthropologi bowls :)

Hailey Girls.kids.New Mexico Photographer

I love watching my clients grow. The Hailey family has been coming to me for three years now. I first took their pictures when the middle girl was only 6 months old. I enjoy seeing this family every year. They live in Vermont, but have family in Clovis. I feel so blessed that they make a point to get pictures of their girls by me every year. Here are some favorites from our session yesterday...
